Hey y’all! Welcome to the beginning, aka my very first blog post! As I sit and write this, I am both extremely excited and extremely nervous. My whole life I have been an artistic type of person who never really knew what to be when I grew up. The older I get (and the more time I spend on the internet), the more I realize writing about my family’s traveling and exploring journey is an excellent outlet for me.
Why I Started Blogging
We are a very adventurous bunch and I tend to get a massive amount of questions regarding the activities we get into. People generally want to know how we survive doing so much with two young kids in tow. I figure the best way to share all of our adventures and answer questions is to blog about it. Who knows, maybe this thing will catch on and we can inspire families all over the globe to get out there with their kids and find their happy place!
About Our Adventures
We are by no means professional travelers. We make a LOT of mistakes and have a bad habit of just winging things without putting in much planning. My husband, Patrick, and I tend to live in the moment and go where the wind takes us so it makes for a lot of interesting stories, but it also gives us a lot of experience on how to improve our next adventures.
Where We Are From
We have lived in Maryland, South Carolina, and now Hawaii. While in Maryland, we didn’t really leave the state much. It wasn’t until we got to South Carolina that we really started branching out. In the two years we lived there we managed to visit 5 of the surrounding states. That little bit of travel opened our eyes to how amazing the United States really is if you take the time to explore her.
When we found out we were being relocated to Hawaii, we decided to make the most of our last few weeks on the mainland and do a cross country road trip. In hindsight, we were a little crazy for packing up our then 1 and 4 year olds, cramming into a 4 door sedan, and taking on America, but I would not trade that experience for the world. There was a lot of cramped legs, snack explosions, shady motels, and getting lost, but there was an equal amount of once in a lifetime opportunities.
Where We Are Now
Being on an island is a HUGE change for us because we had just started to feel the travel bug and now we can’t travel too far without flying. We are making the most of this situation by getting out and trying to see every nook and cranny of nature, good eats, and beaches this island has to offer. For such a small island, the options for getting out and exploring are seemingly endless.
This blog will have a lot of posts about Hawaii, since this is our home for now, but I will also be including posts recounting our cross country trip, places we visited in the southeast, and the occasional post about my fitness and health journey (because who doesn’t love motivation in those areas?!). We will be moving back to the mainland in the next few years and then will continue trying to see all 50 states and possibly all of the National Parks in America if we can afford it.
This is just the beginning and I’m really looking forward to sharing our journey with you guys. I want this to be an informative blog, but I also want to connect with y’all and hear about your experiences too. We are always looking for recommendations on new places to visit so please feel free to pass some ideas our way! I hope you enjoy reading about our experiences and Our Happy Place!
